Description: Here's a wonderful and profusely illustrated softcover booklet describing the history of the Durango & Silverton Railroad and its nostalgic steam engines, from its completion in 1882 up through about 1984, when the book was published. Sections are devoted to the San Juan Mountains, the people of the area (both those who were indigenous and the later settlers), the towns of Silverton and Durango, the Denver & Rio Grande Railway (predecessor to, and contemporary of, the Durango & Silverton) and, of course, the construction and operation of the railroad itself. It also touches on the role the Durango & Silverton has played in several movies, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Around the World in Eighty Days, and Across the Wide Missouri, among others.
The booklet is illustrated with more than 50 photos, most in full color. It is securely bound with two staples.
Size: 8½" x 11" (30 pages, incl. covers)
Copyright Date: 1984; published by INTERpark (William and Merrie Winkler, Cortez, Colorado)
Condition: Excellent, I'd say. The booklet is clean and fresh, with no creases, tears, or extraneous markings. (Please see scans.)
