Description: Here's an interesting vintage calendar panel sample (No. 479) from the Aug. Gast Bank-Note and Litho. Co. of St. Louis, Missouri. The panel is die-cut and embossed around the perimeter. It depicts an elegantly dressed Victorian couple with the lady apparently carrying a bunch of flowers in her apron.
To the back is glued a small slip of paper explaining that the panel would be furnished with a calendar tablet and "your advertising matter neatly printed in dark blue ink". It also lists all the other types of lithographing and printing the the Gast company could provide to a business.
Actual Size: approx. 11.5" x 8"
Date: Not dated, but appears to be late 18th or early 19th Century.
Condition: Just good, I'd say. The panel displays well, with bright, fresh colors, but has several flaws. There's about a 1.5" tear in the left edge, about even with the gentleman's hip. There's also a small tear in the top edge leading into the slot where the panel would normally be hung. Then there are a half dozen clusters of tiny pin holes is the lower half of the panel, only some of which are readily visible from the front. The back seems to have a spattering of silver ink..
