Description: Here's a standard-size matchbook advertising both the Kapok Tree Inn of Clearwater, Florida, and the Peter Pan Inn located near Frederick, Maryland. The front of the match book shows an outside view of part of the Kapok Tree, including one of the Greek (or Italian) statues that used to line the parking lot. The back has a sticky patch, covered with "protective paper", that was supposed to allow the matchbook to be stuck to a cigarette pack or "any smooth clean surface".
The inside provides maps showing both locations. Interestingly, the map for the Kapok Tree shows it located on N. Haines Rd., although the street was later renamed McMullen Booth Rd. (which it had also been called in the 1950s, I think). I don't know when the final renaming took place, but that might help date the matchbook.
Produced by Universal Match, Tampa, Fla.
Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1½" (closed)
Date: Not dated, but probably from the 1970s (although see my note on street naming, above)
Condition: Very good, I'd say. The matchbook is only lightly soiled, with just slightly worn edges. The striker strip doesn't show any evidence of use. (Please see scans.)
